Tabletop Tuesday – Blue and Cherry Table

Blue and cherry tableSummer feels like it’s winding down, but I still love this summer time table spotted at Style Me Pretty. The colors and fresh produce just scream summer, although it must be some place cooler than the South to brave an outdoor meal.

This table has many great ideas all thrown together. For example, how pretty is the vase on top of the footed cake stand? The stand is pretty but also functional. It raises a smallish floral arrangement a few inches, making the flowers appear more important visually. The cake stand’s color also draws more attention to the arrangement by offsetting it from the white runner. That’s tabletop smarts.

I love the combination of fresh fruit and flowers. In season produce is always an attractive and affordable table decoration, especially when placed in pretty bowls. Throw in some flowers for extra color and texture and you have the makings for a visual (and partially edible!) feast. Using blue can make coordinating flowers a little difficult. In this case they use delphinium, which is one of the few true-blue floral options available.

I also like that the table showcases some really nice DIY touches. The garland and lace wrapped votives would both be easy projects to duplicate. I also really covet the ruffled napkins, which could be recreated in a few hours with basic sewing skills.

This table is on a fine line between too casual for a formal wedding, but probably too involved for an everyday at home picnic. It would be perfectly suitable, though, for an event that calls for some effort, like a baby or bridal shower or perhaps a low-key outdoor wedding.
